That's what I think after talkng to people around them...
I'd love for Eddie Goldman and Jamais Winston to add the names to the illustrious recruiting class at the Capstone. It isn't going to happen. Wishing and hoping won't make it so. I spent the better part of monday telephoning every coach, and recruiting person I know who would talk with me. I also talked with several assistant and high school coaches about the two five star rated recruits.
I understand that anything can happen in a short period of time in football recruiting. These kids just don't appear to be in that group. Bama coaches have hit the DC area and Hueytown, Alabama to pull out all the stops to try to convince the two stars to come to Bama. I don't even think that Winston is going to play football unless his MLB stock plummets. Goldman would have come to Alabama a couple of weeks ago until he got sidetracked by some recruiter from Maryland. Bama cannot promise Goldman he'd start at nose-guard next season but they could promise his lots of playing time to eventually start. Two schools have just flat out promised him he'd start. I'm not saying they lie. They just have something to offer that Bama may not honestly be in a position to offer.
There are two other kids Bama is likely to sign. Both are four star players. Both are great players in their own rights. The coaches and people round seem to think that Bama is excellent position for both assuming room is made for them, or they allow some leeway in how they enter the University. Nothing wrong or illegal about gray-shirting or delaying enrollment.
This isn't to say that Tide coaches and Auburn Coaches won't continue to do their best sell job. I guess if you couldn't get these players at Bama you'd tather see them in the ACC. Goldman is excited about playing with the best group of defensive lineman signed by anyone according to experts. That means FSU. Auburn offers immediate playing time. Maryland offers? I have no idea. A trip to the land that time forgot. Maybe it's those god awful uniforms.
Winston can play anywhere. He looks at Auburn and sees maybe I can start there soon. Same as FSU and he loves FSU. Told me so himself. This weekend he goes to reinforce his FSU decision. Expect him to stay. FSU has sold him on running the office and not being a custodian of the offense. They have been telling him he can win games, and not just hand off to other people who will win games. Nasty business this recruiting stuff.
