Expect Auburn to beat the Tide...

Unless the Tide can step it up from the start...

Alabama  is going to travel to Auburn on Tuesday night and leave with their tails between their legs if they don't find a way to step up the offense from the start. I'm not sure they can. If JayMychal Green doesn't stop getting stupid fouls early on the Tide will lose. In fact, I've not seen anything to suggest to me that Alabama is capable of going down on the Plains and winning a road game against a much better than advertised AU team.  Let's just all say what's on our minds - can Grant coach offense?  Basketball isn't exactly like football. Defense doesn't alway win primarily because of the three point line.

What is, you ask, the three point line. It is that semi-circle where Alabama shooters become members of the cast of Lost. I thought is was bad last season. This year sets new marks in futility. This team has several good three point shooters. What happens to them is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. I seriously suggest that Coach Grant get the sports shrink that the football team uses to help them. Perhaps hypnosis might help. It's not the Tide is shooting poorly. They don't come close to making three point baskets. Charles Hankerson, Jr. sank one. He played a great game. He and Trevor Releford saved Bama's bacon over the weekend. Hankerson supplied some much needed fire. Releford made several brilliant defensive plays. One saved the game for Bama. That was an extraordinary defensive play by a great little point guard.

Now comes Auburn and they are at home. A road game and a rode trip are different things. South Carolina beat Alabama at home. South Carolina is the worst SEC team in the history of worst SEC teams. Auburn can score points like rain falls from the sky. I wonder if their interior defense is bad enough that Bama can dominate the paint and not worry about shooting the three ball? The Tigers are athletic and long. They are not strong inside. Alabama has shown some signs of getting salty in the paint. If Green can quit getting in early foul trouble it would help. Jacobs has some good moments. Gueye is starting to help. Randolph is bringing some sneaky inside rebounding, and Mitchell seems to be regaining what he had before whatever happend to him for the last few games.

More than anything the Tide had better come out from the opening tip and play like they did at home last Saturday. Auburn is too fast, quick, and deep to simply fall apart on the press like Ole Miss did at times last weekend. In fact, the Tide better sharpen up their ball control skills. Right now I'd have to pick Auburn by five. Tomorrow may be different.
