Shut down, Shut out, and Shut up...

Tide humiliates LSU to win 14th National Championship...

Alabama and LSU finish 1-2 in final AP Poll
Gundy continues to complain about being left out of BCS Game

Will this be Trent's last college run?
New Orleans, La. -  If the 2011 BCS Championship game had been a prize fight they would have stopped it. If an LSU mother had been able to walk down to the sidelines and talk with Coach Miles she would have asked him to send her son home before he got hurt. The white towel would have been thrown in the ring. The LSU Tigers, ranked #1 in every college football poll,  simply rolled over and quit playing in the third quarter. No one could blame them. It was dangerous out there. The thought crossed my mind that when the LSU "faithful" started the Jarett Lee chant for Miles to put in the second team QB that maybe he didn't want  to play. Lee might not be the most gifted quarterback in the SEC but  he's no fool. By that time time Bayou Bengals were a whipped dog. The SuperDome was no place for the faint of heart, much less the fearful. One look at the expression on the face of LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, his head coach, and his teammates showed just how dazed and confused the Tiger team really was. All things considered it was not a place for women and children. Les Miles said that "big boy" football would be the rule of the night. Les, that was like bringing your knife to a gun fight. Alabama had fully grown mean. "Hateful" players as Saban loveling called them later in his press conference. This wasn't so much a football game but was absolute mayhem by a Crimson draped mob. LSU wasn't so much beaten as they were destroyed. In one game the Tide wiped clean the memory of a memorable season. In sixty minutes Les Miles went from being the King of New Orleans to becoming Nick Saban's lawn man... In short, the Tide slapped the Tigers silly, stomped on a spectacular season, and then then for good measure - took away their manhood.

More than anything it proved that Alabama holds a special place in college football. Many thought that Alabama was undeserving to play in the game and had no place at the table. They didn't need a place. They own the table.  Oklahoma State Coach Mike Gundy can dream all he wants about how competitive a game between Alabama and the Cowboys might be. Coach, the only competitive thing that would occur in that game would be whether or not the energizer bunny could have supplied enough batteries for calculators to keep up with Trent Richardson's rushing yardage. Your offense wouldn't have the ball long enough to score many points. Here's a thought for you - don't get beat by a high school team during your season. That might help your argument. Otherwise, you are just whining. Granted, it is a good whine as whines go. In the Southeastern Conference teams don't whine. They recruit. They also recruit defensive players.  At least Oregon's Chip Kelly had enough sense to keep his mouth shut about playing the SEC again in his lifetime. I suppose a single A baseball team might beat the New York Yankees now and again, or that I might be crowned King of England on Friday. It's possible but don't bet the ranch. In the SEC they play real honest to god football. They don't play glorified flag league ball and put helium in the footballs. You need to quit breathing that stuff, it can obviously cause impaired judgement. And not to burst your bubble but the Cowboys would finish fourth in the SEC West behind Arkansas who has finally learned to play some defense.

Complete and Total Domination in all phases of the game....

Courtney Upshaw showed the futility of running the
option play on his watch.
In retrospect, you cannot find one small area that LSU excelled in last night. Even their all world kicker finally choked. In the first half LSU had the effort but not the players. In the second half they didn't have the heart. Announcers kept saying that LSU's offense was out of sync. It was, but primarily it was because the Alabama defense played with all the finesse of a meat cleaver. The Alabama defense took to the field like Jack the Ripper getting ready for a date. The real "shout out" by Courtney Upshaw occured on the playing field well before the one on the post game podium. The only other shouts on the field were LSU players yelling "look out, for the love of god, here they come". It is one thing to see an physcially inferior football team quit. It is quite another to see  a great football team literally destroyed and frustrated to the point that they quit. A lot of clock watching was going on from the LSU sideline and it wasn't to check to see if they had enough time to mount a  comeback. I'll give Kudos to the Tiger defense. Considering they played almost two thirds of the game and gave up only one touchdown it says a lot about Tiger pride. But finally, they had enough. In the fourth quarter when Trent Richardson ran around left end behind three great blocks you didn't see a lot of desire to chase him down. Richardson could have run to Lake Charles.

A Perect end for a perfect player...

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR ALABAMA
AND THOSE WHO DECIDE TO PLAY WITH
THE TIDE...
Could there have been a more perfect ending for a college career than that touchdown run by Trent? The greatest running back in Alabama history deserves such an ending. Hollywood couldn't have written a better closing scene. Maybe it's not really an ending but the start of a new beginning. Every Alabama fan in the Bama Nation would cut off their arm to have Trent return for on more year. We love him too much not wish him the best, and the millions of dollars the NFL can offer him is best for him and his family. Speaking of the best just how great would this team be if Julio, Mark, and Marcel still wearing the Crimson? I'm thinking all time best in the history of the known football world. This year's national championship team was part of a very special class. So the beat goes on for Alabama football. From all indications we can expect at least two more superstars of the four and five star variety to tell the Tide they'd like to become a part of the continuing series known as the Alabama National Championship football program. P.S. Look for at least one more five star player to say yes to Bama. Maybe even two.

One final comment - I'd like to say thank you to Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson for allowing me to watch to two greatest running backs to play college football. Of course, a shout out to all the other players who have played on every team since Saban arrived. It can't get any better than this can it? Well, that may not be true...  ROLL TIDE ROLL
